Cristina Grajales and Matthew Marks Gallery are pleased to announce the exhibition of Roy McMakin at Cristina Grajales Gallery in conjunction with the release of his new book Roy McMakin: When is a Chair Not a Chair? by Skira Rizzoli.
Roy McMakin is both an artist and accomplished designer. He runs his design company Domestic Furniture / Domestic Architecture out of Seattle. He combines form and function, furniture and visual art, to produce hybrid objects of clean, sensuous surface with humorous underpinnings. His work often plays with scale and language, inviting both visceral response and conceptual contemplation. The exhibition presents an overview of his work from the past fifteen years. In these works, McMakin explores the American vernacular through the functionality of his sculptural pieces. Opening reception on Wednesday, May 5th, 2010 from 6 PM - 9PM at Cristina Grajales Gallery.
